Review : Rabhasa – Limited quantity festive feast
Definition of commercial movies has changed. Film makers have shifted gears of thoughts to elements like fights, songs, dialogues and flashbacks. They are failing to understand the value of a good story. They are just weaving a story as soon as a big hero says OK. Sensibility is not the essence. They are making illusionary tricks like making the hero walk on a thin wire and display acrobatics and the like. On the whole routine story patches are being stitched into a peculiar costume. Let us see how NTR has been used in this flick which has been presented as a Ganesh Chaturdi gift.
Story:
Karthik (NTR) visits Hyderabad to marry Chitti on his mother’s (Jayasudha) wish. Chitti (Pranitha) is his maternal uncle’s (Shayishi Shinde) daughter and he insults Karthik’s parents once. Karthik plans to grab Chitti to his home. His uncle obstructs with a reason that she is still a minor. Karthik enters her college and establishes anti-lover squad. He crawls into Chitti’s hold. In this context he keeps quarreling with Indu (Samantha). Karthik and Samantha’s pair is highly inflammable at all times. Actual twist is between Chitti and Indu. Indu is actual daughter of his uncle and not Chitti. Before this comes to light Indu falls into love with another guy called Vamsi. She even starts loving him without seeing just to save her friend’s love. Another twist is that Vamsi and Karthik are same. How is that possible ? What is the indifferences with his uncle ? Why did Indu like Karthik ? What happened next ? is Rabhasa Story.
It is evident that director has not done his homework on story. Revenge drama with his uncle is mixed with two twists to make it a bit confusing. This resulted in weakened story. Some portion of the movie runs in the college backdrop. NTR-Samantha’s repelling stunts brought some spice to the story. With a challenge to his uncle interval is given. After interval complete story has changed. ‘Dhee’, ‘Ready’ films’s formula has been used to show hero and villain in the same house. He uses some tricks and gimmicks to join both. Hero joins two families to bring the happy end card.
Scenes are quite predictable even to the first time cine goer. How could NTR accept such a normal story would be the question left behind. Spending crores on a story much alike Dhee and Ready to make the audience sit for Two and Half hours is not understood.
Casting:
NTR has to decide which sort of story he likes and need not accept any thing which comes his way. As an actor he can any how get full marks with his punch dialogues, dances and style. He will never fail as an actor, but correct story will uplift him to heights. Samantha is restricting herself to mini skirts and dresses diluting her acting skills. She is diverting more on her glamour. Pranitha has nothing much to describe. Shayaji has been used only for loud shouts and Ajay being a scapegoat. Brahmanandam has done the rescue act. His comedy has kicked off the required spice in the flick. He tried upto his maximum capacity.
Technical:
SS Thaman felt that ‘Its my style, I will not listen to any one’. He never deviated from his routine tunes and even try to do something new. Editor could have taken some more time to fine tune the length. Shyam.K.Naidu has an excellent subject in him and his richness is scene in almost every screen. Producer has also spent good amount towards bringing richness. Few more punchy dialogues could have made this flick a hit.
Telugumirchi Analysis:
Everyone expected a good Vinayaka Chavithi feast from NTR. He almost served all the items but in very limited quantity. For those who expect a big bang from NTR may be disappointed. For those who are satisfied with a masala movie and a festive outing, Rabhasa would be just OK.
Telugu Mirchi Rating : 3.25/5
